Tip Of The Week: How to Make Your Own Header

Making and installing your own header is actually pretty easy, and really makes or breaks a blog as it is the FIRST thing people see when they go to your page.

Step 1: Change your template to "Minima White."

Step 2: Make your header! You can use any editing software you'd like -Photoshop, or Photoshop Elements, or even the free download from Paint.net - which I highly suggest! The usual size of a header, for a TWO column blog is about 660 pixels wide, and 250 pixels tall. It can be as tall as you'd like, but the width is what matters. All my THREE column blogs I make are at least 1000 pixels wide, and 300 pixels tall. So it's up to you!

Step 3:  Go to "Edit Layout" then click "Page Elements."  Click "Edit" on your header image widget and upload your image!  Be sure to select "Instead of Title and Description" and don't select "Shrink to fit."

Step 4: Edit your layout to accommodate your new header. See my tutorial on "How to Make Your Blog Three Columns" if you'd like to add an extra column at this time. Go to "Layout" then "Edit HTML." You'll see a bunch of code. Scroll to where you see this.

Change the "width" to match the pixel size of your header.

Change all the margins and borders to zero.

And it's as simple as that! Click "preview" to see your new awesome header!
