Tip of the Week: How to Add a Favicon to Your Blog

These are called "Favicons" and definitely make your blog stand out. That old one is just a smooshed version of my button, but I am going to change that during this tutorial. If you're anything like me, you tend to have no less than six to thirty seven tabs open on your internet browser. (We're multi-taskers, right?) And it's hard to see which tab belongs to which website, unless you have a cutesy little Favicon to give you a hint. Like this:

So here's how you do it.

First you need to make a favicon. You can even use MS Paint! It will be such a low resolution that it really won't matter! So I am going to make a new one just using the paint program, not Photoshop. (I'll do a fancy one later.) LOL

1. Make a square image. It doesn't have to be exact, just as square as possible. The LESS detail the better.

2. Save it to your computer.

3. There are a lot of different sites you can use, but I like http://www.iconj.com/. Upload your favicon there and select "Sharpen +3."

4. It will give you a code to copy, but don't copy it yet.

5. Open a new window or tab and login to your blogger account. Go into "Layout." Then "Edit HTML." Find the < / head > tag located near the bottom of your HTML.

6. Now go back to http://www.iconj.com/ and copy this:

And paste it right ABOVE the < / head > tag. You're done!
