I don't mean to start off on a sad note, but I really wanted to tell you guys this, and see what we can do to help.
My little brother and I found out that my mom had Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis when we were much younger - but she never really let us see the effects the disease had until more recently. Our whole life she was always the perfect mom - cooking the best food ever, cleaning up after us, teaching us amazing lessons, and really being a great friend. We lived below poverty level the majority of my childhood, sometimes even living in homeless shelters and campgrounds - but my mom would always make it an adventure for us. Even after her divorce from my dad when I was 12, she always stayed positive, upbeat, and managed to keep us none the wiser as to her struggles. I credit her for making my parents divorce probably the least traumatizing divorce in history. I was always just glad to have two Christmases! I was also just glad that she was happy. So anyway, just a year or so ago, we found out that she also has an inoperable tumor right between the two hemispheres of her brain about the size of a peanut M&M, along with brain hemorrhaging. If the tumor becomes cancerous and grows any larger, it will pinch off the vein running between the two hemispheres (the one you can sometimes see in your forehead) and kill her. As it stands, she's at risk of seizures and strokes already.
The Lupus took it's toll, leaving quarter size bald spots all over her scalp. Thankfully, her hair is so long and beautiful that no one can really see them. Lupus is a disease that makes it so your immune system assumes healthy tissue and organs are "the enemy" and attacks your own body as if it were attacking an illness. In order to control this disease, she must go to the hospital every month and get an infusion for two hours. This lowers her white blood cell count, obviously making her susceptible to any little infection, cut, or scrape.
The RA is slowly degenerating much of her joints and bones. The vertebrate in her neck have degenerated so much she needs steroid injections every six months. So far she's had 12 surgeries on her wrist alone, 9 of which were major. She's also had three surgeries on her foot to remove bone growths. The healing time on all these surgeries takes four to five times longer, and are much more painful, than on most other people because of her infusions she needs to help calm the hyperactive immune system (Lupus.) Having these diseases hand in hand is horrible as treating one symptom often makes another much worse, creating almost every ailment from the flu to infections on a daily basis.
Unfortunately, these horrible diseases aren't even the worst or most painful things she's had to go through in the past few years. The doctor found a mass on her rib cage, and had her undergo what she described as the most "painful surgery" she's ever had, removing her entire rib. More recently she had to get her entire thyroid removed because of a mass of nodules that formed on it, leaving a scar on her throat.
Rarely does she get a full nights sleep due to the constant pain she's in all day. She wakes up every morning and is barely able to move. She wears braces on her wrists and takes over 10 prescriptions per day to control not only the pain, but all the symptoms that go along with the diseases.
But of course, Mom being the way she is, wouldn't want me to talk about all that. She's one of those rare strong people that never talk about their disease, or complain about pain. She's always up and at 'em as soon as she physically can be - cooking, baking, doing crafts, making quilts, staining furniture - she always stays active even if it means going to through a little extra pain to get that last stitch in on the quilt that she's been working on for months to give to someone for Christmas. There isn't a holiday that goes by where Bradley and I don't get a perfectly thought out package with tons of home made crafts, baked goods, and personalized cards. She takes food to the neighbors all the time, as she loves to cook, but can rarely eat much. She'll also send "just because" cards with goodies inside just to tell someone she's thinking about them. When the holidays roll around and everyone is all together, she's the life of the party - joking, talking, and having fun. Although recently that time has been constrained more and more as she gets tired easily. She's an absolute perfectionist. From her cooking, to her decor, to her home - everything has it's place and coordinates beautifully. She's thrifty and never shops anywhere but places like Savers and the Goodwill where she manages to find the cutest, classiest, clothes for just a few bucks a piece. She's also an absolute champion at Scrabble and Sudoku - always beating my grandma and I like three fold! She has amazing style, grace, intelligence, and does it all on a strict budget, with all these illnesses, but now - NO CAR!
Which is the problem. Awhile back her car was totaled by no fault of her own, and she was never able to afford to get a new one. She's has heavily relied on my grandma for transportation, who now has to move back home nearly 15 hours away. Mom has around three to five appointments PER WEEK! (Insane, I know.) Plus her two to three hour infusions, surgeries, etc... Being as stubborn as she is, she'd never ask any of her friends or neighbors to help due to the length of the visits taking up the majority of the day.

So, here's what I'm doing. For anyone who orders blog design, 100% of the funds will go to help my mom buy a CAR! Normally, I don't require payment upfront - but if you could pay for your blog design in full when we put your name on the waiting list, the pool will grow more quickly. Anyone who is currently on the waiting list can also contribute by paying upfront. The PayPal form is by donation, so you may enter in your own amount. Just send me an e-mail letting me know what you want, I'll give you a quote and an estimated time frame for delivery, then you use the "Pay Here" Button on the far right sidebar under the queue to pay via PayPal.
As an incentive, I will randomly give away a $75 gift card to one lucky person who donates! You will also get an "I Donated" button when you're done!
If you aren't able to donate or get a blog design, no worries! If you could just put this lovely button on your blog I would be sooo grateful!
If you aren't able to donate or get a blog design, no worries! If you could just put this lovely button on your blog I would be sooo grateful!
Thanks for all your support and help. Even if you don't donate, I'd love to hear a comment from you to share with her, or just words of encouragement! If you want to, please share this story, or any part of it, with your blog followers as well. Hopefully we can raise enough to get her the money she needs for transportation!
Love you guys! You are totally awesome!

Thank you so much for sharing your mom's story with us. I will be happy to put your button on my blog, and am going to think about what I can contribute to the cause. She sounds like an absolutely wonderful mother, and it would appear that she's raised a wonderful daughter.
Your mom rocks! And she's gorgeous. I have a momma that people ask me all the time - is that your sister? Which is great for the 60 year old - for the 26 year old? Not so much... I'm sorry I can't use your services right this moment. But I'm working on something up in my brain and I might need your use in the near future. I will keep you in my prayers.
My best, Lynn
Oh, my. April. I cannot believe all that your mother has had to overcome in her life! It sounds like she's done so with amazing grace, but STILL. That is so much.
I'm adding the button right now.
love your blog! Thanks for sharing your Mom's story.....Blessings, C.
April I have known you now for over 5 years and I had no idea your mom suffered from all of these ailments. I feel so selfish as I sit here and cry...I just can't imagine what she and especially you are going through. Your mom is an amazing teacher, she taught you to be as selfless as she is. Right now Eli and I are very strapped, but if you give me a month, we will decide what we can contribute to the cause. I will keep you and your family in my prayers; God will work through you all to help you through this difficult time.
God Bless.
Oh I wish I could donate right now but sadly I can't. I can however keep your mom in my prayers. Also, how about if we all send cards and notes of well wishes to her. DO you think she would enjoy that? When my brother had his stroke and everyone sent cards they made him really happy.
Hugs,
Joanne
P.S. I put your button on my blog.
I'm putting your button on my blog and am paying in full for my gorgeous, sexy blog design. I hope your mom continues to keep her spirits up and you're able to raise the funds you need for her new car. You're in my thoughts!

April, your Mom is gorgeous and sounds like a fabulous person! I'm going to post the button on both of my blogs. {{{hugs}}}
I'm so sorry to hear about your mother. My mom also has had a variety of health problems, and has spend the majority of 15 years in bed. Unfortunately she hasn't been able to keep up the activity level of your mom. I will definitely have you help me with the layout...I've been wanting a 3 column desing for a while...I've made the header but never used it.
What an awesome mom you have! All the best to her...and she gets that car!
Hi April
Your mom sounds like an amazing lady - what a star!
I'd love to help so I have just paid the rest of the balance for my blog design in full. I also gave you $10 for the domain name you purchased for me and a further $10 donation for setting up the blog for me / for your mom.
I hope you get the car for her and I will also do a blog post telling this story and linking to your appeal so hopefully you'll get more traffic to your blog and more donations.
I love your blog - it rocks! It always makes me smile so I hope I have made you smile here!
Take care, Nadine

Hey my new blog friend. I'm going to like your post to mine and post your button on my sidebar. Your mother and you will be in my prayers.
Your mother is simply amazing:) I am speechless.
I am putting your button on my blog right now:)
Hugs!
What a wonderfully sweet post you have here for your courageous mother! She will be so appreciative. You are one amazing woman! Coming from someone who has lost her mother, I would LOVE to do whatever I can to help out and keep your mom here on this earth for many years to come! I'm headed out of town, but when I get back, I'll touch base with you and I can find out how I can donate or whatever else you may need :)
I'm adding your button to my blog right now. I realize I'm private, but at least I'll bring some attention to this cause there. BTW- can't remember if I've sent you an invite to my blog?
Oh my gosh. I can't say that I understand how your mom feel because the ordeals your mom's gone through are severe but I can empathize. I have been struggling with spondylitis for 2 years (it's an autoimmune disease similar to RA). I get to sit through 2 hour infusions too - is your mom on Remicade? That's what I'm on. My second best friend is my rheumatologist. The bummer deal when you have an autoimmune disease is that things keep breaking down with your body. I recently had to be hospitalized for pulmonary emboli. Somehow, it makes us stronger and makes us that much more appreciative of the gift that life is. Thank you for sharing your mom's story - it really is nice to know that I'm not alone. I will keep her in my prayers.
I put the button up on my sidebar.
April what a sweet, beautiful post about you mom. Mom's are wonderful, I love mine to death. She found out she has diabetes last year but it's very manageable and she has no health concerns from it right now, but I was terrified when she told me and I worry about her a lot. I wish I had the means right now to get one of your super sexy blog designs (heaven knows my blogs need it) but I will keep your family, especially your mom, in my prayers. Tell you mom she is a wonderful courageous woman and that she did a heck of a job raising an awesome chicka like you. I'm going to add your button to my blog and hope that someone else can donate right now.
Hey, I think this is my first comment. I really enjoy your blog and designs
I posted your button on my blog. Hope it helps
I am so sorry to hear about everything that your mother is going through, reading this post brought tears to my eyes. Unfortunately I am not in a position to donate right now, but I'm going to put your button on my blog and write a post about your mom. I'll also be keeping your whole family in my prayers.
I couldn't donate but I did add your button to my blog, and I will add your mom to my prayer list. You as well.
Your mom is an amazing woman as are you.
I sent a small donation...it's not much, but something is better than nothing!
I am adding your button to my blog as well.
Oh April that breaks my heart for you! I would hate to see my mom in that much pain! I will donate!

I am adding your button to my blog right now, and would like to have some kind of blog re-design done. I just need to assess finances as I am only working full-time! I will definitely check back in within the next few weeks.
Best of luck to your mom. My mom has lupus as well... I get tested all the time.. just did yesterday infact... waiting on the results... it sucks.

I just emailed you about blog design and then I read this! (Sorry...I'm so behind on my blog reading!) So glad to help out! Let me know how much it would be to design the blog and a header and I'll talk to my co-leaders and see what we can afford.
Saying a prayer for your Momma!
I'm putting your button up, So sorry you and your mama are going through this. I wish you all the best!
Your mom sounds like a great woman. I'm a single mom of 2 so I'm not able to donate, but I have put your button on my blog.
What horrible diseases! I'm sorry your mom has to go through so much!
I just saw this, but I see you've made your goal! That's so great! I bet your mom is going to be shocked beyond belief! =)
Wow! You have such an amazing Mom! She is a strong woman and an inspiration to every Mother. That disease can suck the life out of anyone, but your Mom is fighting for her life by staying positive. I wish I can help now, but can't at present. Your mom and your whole family will always be in my prayers.
